NETLEY, ENGLAND. 1918-03. TORPEDO DAMAGE TO THE SIDE OF SS BOORARA SHOWN AFTER SHE WAS BEACHED FOR TEMPORARY REPAIRS. BOORARA (A42) WAS ORIGINALLY THE GERMAN SHIP PFALZ AND WAS CAPTURED IN MELBOURNE ON 1914-08-05. THE SHIP WAS RENAMED AND CONVERTED FOR AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE TRANSPORT USES. SHE WAS RAMMED BY THE FRENCH CRUISER KLEBER ON 1915-07-17, TORPEDOED IN THE ENGLISH CHANNEL ON 1918-03-20 (WITH THE RESULT SHOWN IN THIS PHOTOGRAPH) AND TORPEDOED AGAIN NEAR YARMOUTH ON 1918-07-23. BOORARA SURVIVED THE WAR AND ON 1919-06-24 SHE WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE COMMONWEALTH GOVERNMENT LINE.
