BOORARA (A42) WAS ORIGINALLY THE GERMAN SHIP PFALZ AND WAS CAPTURED IN MELBOURNE ON 1914-08-05. THE SHIP WAS RENAMED AND CONVERTED FOR AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE TRANSPORT USES. SHE WAS RAMMED BY THE FRENCH CRUISER KLEBER ON 1915-07-17, TORPEDOED IN THE ENGLISH CHANNEL ON 1918-03-20 (WITH THE RESULT SHOWN IN THIS PHOTOGRAPH) AND TORPEDOED AGAIN NEAR YARMOUTH ON 1918-07-23. BOORARA SURVIVED THE WAR AND ON 1919-06-24 SHE WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE COMMONWEALTH GOVERNMENT LINE.
