Studio portrait of 514 Lance Corporal Alexander Conrad Le Maitre, 22nd Battalion from Leongatha, Victoria. A 20 year old clerk prior to enlistment on 15 March 1915, he embarked for overseas with B Company from Melbourne on 10 May 1915 aboard HMAT Ulysses. After serving at Gallipoli, he went on to serve on the Western Front where he was killed in action at Pozieres, France on 4 August 1916 and is buried in the Pozieres British Cemetery, Ovillers-La-Boisselle.
