Studio portrait of 237 Gunner Lindsay Mackrell, 5th Machine Gun Battalion from Strathbogie, Victoria. A 25 year old farmer prior to enlistment on 29 February 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 2nd Reinforcements of the 6th Machine Gun Company from Melbourne on 4 May 1916 aboard HMAT Port Lincoln. He was killed in action on 25 September 1917 at Polygon Wood, Belgium and is buried in the New Irish Farm Cemetery, St Jean-Les-Ypres, Belgium.
