Studio portrait of 1751 Sergeant Ernest Charles Wood, 22nd Battalion from Sandringham, Victoria. A 21 year old piano tuner prior to enlistment on 17 May 1915, he embarked for overseas as an Acting Sergeant with the 2nd Reinforcements from Melbourne on 16 July 1915 aboard HMAT Demosthenes. He was killed in action on 4 August 1916 at Pozieres, France and is commemorated on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.
