Studio portrait of 3861 Private Joseph Robert Kendall, 22nd Battalion from South Yarra, Victoria (born in Kittitas County, USA). A 27 year old plumber prior to enlistment on 12 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 9th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 8 February 1916 aboard HMAT Warilda. He was killed in action at Pozieres, France on 27 July 1916 and is buried in the Pozieres British Cemetery, Ovillers-La-Boisselle, France..
