Studio portrait of 6822 Private (Pte) Lot Smith, 7th Battalion from Culcairn, NSW. A 36 year old road maintenance worker prior to enlisting on 6 June 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 22nd Reinforcements from Sydney on 17 November 1916 aboard SS Port Napier. While serving on the Western Front, he was killed in action at Passchendaele, Belgium on 20 September 1917 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium with others who have no known grave.
