Description

Studio portrait of 4431 Private (Pte) James Benjamin Barrett, 14th Reinforcements, 7th Battalion, of West Brunswick, Vic, aged 20 years. Pte Barrett enlisted on 8 September 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Themistocles on 21 January 1916. He was killed in action on 19 July 1916 at Fleurbaix, France. Pte Barrett had three brothers who also served with the AIF. 1318 Pte Alfred Ernest Barrett, 2nd Battalion, killed in action on 25 July 1916 at Pozieres; 4665 Pte William John Barrett, 21st Battalion, killed in action 24 December 1916 at Fleurbaix, France. 3706 Pte Albert Frederick Barrett, 5th Battalion, returned to Australia on 25 August 1917.
