Description
Studio portrait of 686 (previously 605) Private (Pte) James Pullar Cameron, 8th Light Horse Regiment from Orbost, Victoria. A 23 year old engine driver prior to enlisting on 11 September 1914, he embarked for overseas with the 2nd Reinforcements from Melbourne on 12 February 1915 aboard HMAT Armadale. While serving at Gallipoli, he was wounded in action on 29 April 1915 and evacuated to Malta for medical treatment. Three weeks later, he had recovered and rejoined the regiment at Gallipoli only to be killed in action on 7 August 1915. Pte Cameron is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
