Studio portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Leslie Emmet James Fitzgerald, 5th Battalion. A civil servant from Abbotsford, Vic prior to enlistment, Lt Fitzgerald embarked with the rank of Second Lieutenant with the 4th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Wiltshire on 14 April 1915. On 25 July 1916 he was killed in action at Pozieres, aged 24, and was buried in the Delville Wood Cemetery, Longueval, France.
