Description
Portrait of 644 Private (Pte) Reginald William Stanley Marsh, 22nd Battalion from Pyalong, Victoria. A 24 year old groom prior to enlisting on 18 February 1915, he embarked for overseas with C Company from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 8 May 1915. While serving at Gallipoli, he was wounded in action on 18 September 1915 and evacuated to the Hospital Ship Maheno. Later that same day, he died from his head wound and was buried at sea off Anzac Cove. Pte Marsh is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
