Studio portrait of 266 Sergeant (Sgt) Gerald Harry Goss, 16th Battalion from North Perth, Western Australia. A 32 year old Imperial civil servant prior to enlisting as a private on 14 September 1914, he was promoted to corporal (Cpl) ten days later. Cpl Goss embarked for overseas service with D Company from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 22 December 1914 and was promoted to sergeant the next day. The 16th Battalion landed at Gallipoli in the afternoon of 25 April 1915 and Sgt Goss was killed in action on the 27 April. He is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey with others who have no known grave.
