Studio portrait of 207 Private (Pte) Leslie Hyde, 14th Battalion from Bendigo, Victoria. A 21 year old carpenter prior to enlisting on 8 September 1914, he embarked for overseas service with B Company from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 22 December 1914. Following further training in Egypt, the 14th Battalion landed at Gallipoli in the early afternoon of 26 April 1915. Pte Hyde was killed in action on 27 April and buried at Quinn’s Post Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
