Studio portrait of 2161 Private (Pte) Arthur Kingsley Darby, 1st Field Company Engineers, of Moore Park, NSW. A harness maker prior to enlistment Pte Darby initially served with the Australian Naval & Military Expeditionary Force in New Guinea between 11th August 1914 and 4th March 1915. Following his discharge he re-enlisted in the A.I.F. and embarked with the 11th Reinforcements on HMAT Beltana from Sydney on 9th November 1915. After transferring to 4th Field Company Engineers, he was promoted to Lance Corporal (L Cpl) and was killed in action at Pozieres, France on 28 August 1916 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux memorial.
