Description

Studio portrait of 6379 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Michael Arthur Blenkinsop, 16th Company, Australian Service Corps, of Busselton, WA (originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne, England). A butcher prior to enlistment, he embarked with the rank of Private (Pte) on HMAT Afric from Melbourne on 22nd May 1915. L Cpl Blenkinsop was awarded the Military Medal for devotion to duty at Gallipoli. Later promoted to Corporal (Cpl) he died of bronchitis on 26th January 1919 and is buried in Charleroi Communal Cemetery in Belgium.
