Studio portrait of 746 Sergeant (Sgt) Hugh McGill Blair, 5th Battalion, of Newport, Victoria. A native of Stirling, Scotland, Sgt Blair was employed as a blacksmith prior to enlistment. He embarked with the Battalion from Melbourne on HMAT Orvieto on 21st October 1914. He was killed in action in France on 25th July 1916 and is buried in Poziers British Cemetery, Ovillers-La- Boiselle.
