Lieutenant James Bruce King of Hawthorn, Vic (left) and Captain Robert Andrew, both of the 22nd Battalion, AIF, in a deep front line trench. Lt King died of wounds on 5 May 1916 in France. Captain Andrew returned to Australia on 17 March 1917.
