Description
An unidentified Sergeant (Sgt) (wearing a jumper at right), probably with the Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF), ponders the problems of repairing a huge hole in a road. The hole takes up the entire width of the road, which is bounded by a timber fence and an earth wall. The damage has been caused by subsidence, and the hole has filled with a large amount of water, making repairs difficult. An unidentified Australian serviceman stands (left) with cigarette in hand, awaiting orders.
