Description
Two members of a mortar platoon of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), protect their ears with their hands, as they fire a mortar which has been set up in a field of harvested hay. Three other soldiers work next to them, preparing and fusing mortars. On the ground around the mortar are shells, and mortar carrying cases. To the rear another two teams are preparing mortars for firing. Other soldiers can be seen moving around between the jeeps in the foreground and the road. In the distance in the valley are thatched farm shelters.
