Lady Edwina Mountbatten is greeted by three officers at an airfield in Japan. The group is, left to right: unidentified Australian Army officer; Lieutenant General W Bridgeford, Commander of British Commonwealth Forces Korea (BCFK); Lady Mountbatten and an unidentified officer wearing a General Headquarters Southwest Pacific Area (GHQ SWPA) shoulder patch. Lady Mountbatten is visiting hospitals and other medical facilities in Southeast Asia in her capacity as Superintendent in Chief St John Ambulance Brigade, and Chairman of St John and Red Cross Services Hospitals Welfare Department. On her uniform, Lady Mountbatten is wearing a circular patch on the lower part of the sleeve which reads, 'ORDER OF ST JOHN BRITISH RED CROSS SOCIETY SERVICE HOSPITAL WELFARE'. Other passengers are disembarking from a BOAC aircraft in the background.
