At sea. 1 August 1952. Vice Admiral Sir John A. Collins, First Member of the Australian Naval Board, is piped over the side of HMAS Bataan by Chief Petty Officers Bob Errington of Edithvale, Vic, and Joe Fargher of Lane Cove, NSW. He was going ashore on a United States landing craft to visit a US Marine held island, north of the 38th Parallel on the west coast of Korea. Admiral Collins was inspecting naval forces in the Korean theatre.
