Description

Enjoying a cigarette are four members of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), waiting in a trench for the word to move out on a night patrol. Note that they are all wearing head gear, armoured vests and have their faces blackened. Head gear is optional on these night patrols and anything may be worn except the steel helmets which are considered too noisy. Pictured, left to right: Private (Pte) Andy Arnold of Southport, Qld; Pte T. W. (Nick) Winter of Campbelltown, NSW; Corporal Dick Garrett of Trafalgar, Vic, with two grenades attached to his clothes, and Private Len Murdoch of Toowoomba, Qld.
