Description
Miyajima Island, Japan. c. May 1955. A very popular spot with Australian troops on leave from Korea and Japan is the island of Miyajima, the official Leave Centre for British Commonwealth troops in the Far East. The island, set in the Inland Sea of Japan, provides man y recreational facilities, but many of the men on leave prefer the natural beauty of the island to its man-made attractions. Here two soldiers set out on a tour of inspection through the gate of the Rest Centre, part of which can be seen in the background. They are, Private (Pte) Lloyd Nobes of Woodside, SA, and Pte Harry Ormshaw of Dyraaba Creek, NSW.
