Chief Australian announcer on 'Radio Commonwealth' , the Army radio station that serves the 1st Commonwealth Division on the Korean truce line, is 27139 Sergeant (Sgt) Kevin Joseph O'Donnell, of Rose Bay Sydney. Sgt O'Donnell, pictured here in the caravan broadcasting studio of this front line station, has been working on army radio stations in Japan and Korea for the past eighteen months. 'Radio Commonwealth' is situated on the banks of the Imjin River only three or four miles away from the Communist positions on the truce line. Its small staff of Australian, British, Canadian and New Zealand servicemen keep it on the air 14 hours a day, seven days a week in the sub zero temperatures of the Korean winter and the torrid heat of the rainy season. Sgt O'Donnell was a radio announcer with 7LA (Launceston, Tas) and 2NZ (Inverall, NSW) before he joined the Army three years ago. He is due to return to Australia next month.
