Group portrait of the administrative staff of the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (AN&MEF) outside their Headquarters building in Rabaul. Identified in the second back row, second from the left is Lieutenant (Lt) Victor Bolton Pennefather from Tocumwal, Victoria; and third from the left is Major (Maj) Cecil John Wilson Gillan from Hawthorn, Victoria. In the front row on the far left is Maj Howard Newport from Rabaul and in the centre (fourth from the left) is Brigadier General George Jameson Johnston from Melbourne, Victoria (officer in charge of the AN&MEF). Fifth from the left in the front row is Lieutenant Commander John Leonard Bain from Essendon, Victoria. The others are unidentified.
