Description

Informal portrait of 20555 Sapper Eric Keast Burke,'D' Troop, 1st Australian Wireless Signal Squadron, Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force standing near the ruins of a lion standing over a prostrate man roughly carved in black basalt. The carving is said to represent Daniel in the lion's den but is thought to be more likely the triumph of Belteshazzar over the wandering Egyptian Army. The soldiers are visiting the ruins as part of a YMCA excursion.
