Warrant Officer Second Class (WO2) Rayene (Ray) Stewart Simpson, forty three, of Redfern, NSW, and a member of the Australian Army Training Team in Vietnam (AATTV) was the third Australian to win a Victoria Cross (VC) in Vietnam. On the right is Lieutenant Colonel D. M. Wood, US Army, who commanded the unit of 5th Special Force, with which WO2 Simpson was serving when he won the award.
