Abstract
A personal view by a Tasmanian with Thorneycroft's Mounted Infantry.
The opening battles on the River Tugela and the Heights beyond, by the Natal Field Force, were a mixture of indecision by the the officers commanding the army on one hand, and resolute service by the troop engaged, on the other.
