The trophy tradition / Mark Clayton.
In part one of this two part article the author describes the history of gathering trophies on the battlefield dating back to 330 BC. The author goes on to explain how during the First World War, Australian soldiers took to gathering of trophies and how they were displayed in Australian towns after the war, mostly in public parks. The author also states that during the Second World War, the practise of gathering trophies was nowhere near as prevalent as during the previous war.
