Note Australia (AIF, RAN, Merchant Navy) -- New Zealand (NZEF) -- British (BEF, RN, RFC & Merchant Navy). The official period for inclusion on the Roll of Honour in Canberra is 4/8/1914 to 31/3/1921. This Roll includes the names and some details of 3163 Tasmanians known to have died as a result of their service with Australian, New Zealand and British, Army, Navy and Air Force units during WW1. This roll has been compiled from all known and accessible historical and modern databases including The Tasmanian War Memorials database (1996), Tasmania's War record (1920), The AIF Project, The Australian War Memorial, The Commonwealth War Graves Commission, NZ sources, The WW1 Pictorial Roll of Tasmanians a nd various newspaper articles or supplements. The work was undertaken from 2005 to 2015 by members of the St. Helens / St. Marys RSL Sub Branch with assistance from other residents of the Break O' Day council area who helped with early research. The name s have been cast on Bronze Plaques and fixed on the outside wall of the War Memorial Hall in St. Helens during 2015 as a "Centenary of ANZAC" project for the area. - G Cameron, Sub Branch Vice President, 13/4/2014 (E & OE).--Front cover.
