Let the Dyaks, Indonesians and Chinese fight about it, they can have their Borneo, we can do without it, when we sail down the river to the sea, there will be happy days for you and me". An extract from the Journal of Malaysian Historical Society, Sarawak Branch, volume no.2 March 1976. The celebration of this 50th Anniversary of the International Peace Day 2017 calls to mind, the many sacrifices and struggle for peace and unity during the time of the World War ll (WWll), Japanese occupation of Sarawak (1941-1945). As we revisit this sad Sarawak wartime historical heritage, we could not, but to understand and appreciate the unforgettable effort made towards the culture of peace and harmony for achieving freedom and stability that we enjoy today. While taking this literary journey to di scuss or recover this knowledge, we need to also take opportunity to pay tribute to our forefathers and to their memories and legacy that they bequeathed to us and generations to come.
