Squadron Leader (Sqn Ldr) Jack Royston Kinninmont, DFC and bar, of Northbridge, NSW, enters his aircraft in readiness for a gunnery exercise. He was undertaking a Jet Conversion Course with No. 2 Operational Training Unit at RAAF Station Williamtown, NSW. Aged 33, Sqn Ldr Kinninmont had recently been appointed Commanding Officer of the famous 77 Fighter Squadron, already in Korea, succeeding Wing Commander Susans. Educated at North Sydney Boys High School, Sqn Ldr Kinninmont joined the RAAF in 1939, and served continuously as a fighter pilot for the next 13 years. He was an original member of 21 City of Melbourne Fighter Squadron in Malaya, flying Brewster Buffalo aircraft; he also flew with 453 Squadron in Malaya and with 77 and 75 Kittyhawk Fighter Squadrons in New Guinea, Goodenough Island, Borneo and Morotai.
