Group Captain (Gp Capt) Bill Garing CBE, DFC of Corryong, Vic (left), congratulates the RAAF's newest Group Captain, Brian Eaton DSO and Bar, DFC of Canterbury, Vic, Commanding Officer of 78 Fighter Wing. On the same day that he learned of his promotion, Gp Capt Eaton led his two fighter squadrons from Malta to Nicosia, Cyprus for five weeks of intensive armament practice. Gp Capt Garing was attached to the Wing for the Cyprus visit. He had just finished a year's study at the Imperial Defence College, London and would shortly take command of the RAAF's overseas headquarters in London.
