Description

Brisbane, Qld. April 1966. Saturday traffic came to a standstill in the heart of Brisbane, as soldiers of 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR), marched through the city streets in a farewell parade before leaving Australia for service in South Vietnam. The Governor, Sir Alan Mansfield, headed the group of distinguished observers who viewed the march from the steps of City Hall. Also present were the Minister for the Army, Mr Malcolm Fraser, the Premier, Mr Nicklin and senior officers of the armed services. Sir Alan Mansfield took the salute as the soldiers marched past City Hall. Seven hundred men took part in the march, which was watched by thousands of Saturday shoppers.
