Poretta, Corsica, France. May 1944. No. 451 (Spitfire) Squadron RAAF which is now operating from Poretta Airfield in Corsica, and had previously been based in the Middle East for three years. On its first sortie it shot down a Messerschmitt Bf109 in flames. The commanding officer of the squadron 402365 Squadron Leader Ed E. Kirkham (right), is speaking with Wing Commander E. G. Morris DSO (left), who is Wing Commander Flying of No. 251 group RAF which includes RAF, Rhodesian and RAAF squadrons.
