Cesenatico, Italy. c. December 1944. No. 454 Squadron RAAF in Northern Italy is given excellent support to the Eighth Army in its Spring offensive. Seen here is 422562 Warrant Officer (WO) S. W. Holmes DFC of West Ryde, NSW, in the cockpit of his Martin Baltimore aircraft "Just Jane", which on two consecutive occasions was brought back to safety after being badly shot up by ack-ack. For his outstanding work, WO Holmes received the immediate award of the DFC.
