Private (Pte) Tim 'Slim' Callaghan (right), from Condobolin, NSW, enjoys an impromptu shower bath administered by his friend 52268 Pte Lloyd 'Snow' Stephens of Perth, WA, during a route march in Korea. The temperature is up around the century mark, the humidity is around 80 percent, and the soldiers had just walked ten miles, so it was into the creek, 'boots and all', when a halt was called for lunch. Pte Callaghan and Pte Stephens are members of A Company, 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR). Pte Callaghan has been in Korea for four months. He gave up a job as a tractor driver and joined the Australian Army in 1950. Pte Stephens, who was a panel beater in civilian life has been in the army for two years, and arrived in Korea at the same time as his mate.
