Description
Men of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) in Korea, wear the same equipment as was used in the fighting era of the Korean War, when they go on night patrol training. Zipping up his armoured vest is Bren gunner 35064 Private Desmond Henderson of Epalock via Bendigo, Vic. These vests are made of a very tough and comparatively light nylon material, and although they will not stop a bullet at close range, are designed to prevent three quarters of the battle casualties caused by shell fragments and long range small arms fire.
