Description

"The Story of Cornelius John Mahony: Prepared for the 90th Anniversary of his Death at Broodseinde, Belgium on 9th October 1917". Widowed in 1915 and enlisted in the 17th Battalion in the same year. Wounded in July 1916 on the Western Front and rejoined his battalion in September only to be wounded again in November. Returned again in December 1916, was promoted to Corporal and went to Rollestone Artillery School in England for training. Returned to France in 1917 and listed as 'missing' after the attack at Broodseinde. Officially listed as 'killed in action' in April 1918. This manuscript tries to determine what happened.
