Description

"Experiences of A.V. 'Jock' McDonough during WW II 1939 - 1945". Transcribed from recordings with some historical additions. Aged 24 he was selected for the Number 1 Course of the Empire Air Training Scheme in the RAAF (1939). On board HMAS Perth as a catapult pilot which served in Java, fights in the Battle of Sunda Strait where the HMAS Perth was sunk. Taken as a prisoner of war. Spent time in Serang Gaol, the Bicycle Camp, Batavia and then taken to Changi, Singapore where he worked on the Burma/Siam railway. Made his way back to Bangkok at the end of the war and repatriated back to Australia. Includes illustrations, maps and photos.
