Description

"A Centenarian Reveals His 1915 - 1919 Diary". Typed and bound manuscript from the First World War diary of 369 Company Quartermaster Sergeant Alfred Frank Lewis of the 27th Battalion. He left Australia in March 1915 on S.S. Geelong bound for Egypt. Fought at Gallipoli and then evacuated to Lemnos. Went back to Suez for training and then left on board the S.S. Northland for Marseilles. Fought on the Western Front and then took leave in England. Fights on the Western Front again and takes leave to sight-see in Paris. Goes back to England and then on to Australia. Discharged July 1919. The diary has consise entries. This typescript, arranged by his family, includes scans of old postcards and photographs.
