Elmore, Septimus (b.1884 - d.1969)
Description
Transcribed diaries of 3146 Sergeant Septimus Elmore, 6th Field Ambulance, WW1. Elmore enlisted on 29 January 1915 and served as a stretcher bearer on the front line at Gallipoli and France. He was wounded twice, the last time, in May 1918, he was taken back to England for treatment and didn't return to his unit until after the armistice had been signed. Elmore was awarded the Military Medal and the Bar for acts of bravery. He only accepted promotion to Sergeant after the war was over and he was assigned to the Educational Unit of the Army.
The diaries were transcribed by Ian McLaughlin at the request of the widow of Septimus Elmore in 2006.
