A shore party assists as the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne casts off from a wharf to begin a five month deployment to the Far East Strategic Reserve (FESR). The then flagship of the Australian fleet, HMAS Melbourne had carried out six previous tours to South East Asia. During her visit, HMAS Melbourne was scheduled to visit many regional countries and participate in international exercises, including SEATO exercise Sea Devil in April 1962.
