Ordinary Seaman W A E (Alex) Degenhardt (left) and an unidentified sailor of HMAS Voyager (II), rest outside the 4 Delta (4D) Petty Officers’ Mess on board the RAN aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne (II). The injured sailors were rescued following the sinking of HMAS Voyager on the night of 10 February 1964, the result of a collision with the Melbourne during exercises off Jervis Bay, southern NSW. The disaster claimed the lives of 82 crew members of the Voyager.
