Description
Several personnel onboard the troop transport HMAS Sydney use their leisure time playing a game of chess together. Here an unidentified sailor (left) looks on with amusement as his army opponent 215802 Corporal Klaus Walter 'Tanky' Scheuermann (right) considers his next move to counter the play. Other soldiers, members of 5th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, (5RAR), wait in anticipation for his response. This activity occurred on board during the ship's third voyage to Vietnam. Also identified is 5713665 Private (Pte) William John Hunt, second from left, (partly obscured); 2781537 Pte Robert John Carter, third from left and 5713686 Pte Bernard Jeffrey McShane, fourth from left, (holding can).
