GERMANY, C. 1916. PORTRAIT OF TWO GERMAN CHILDREN AGED ABOUT SIX AND FOUR. THEIR FATHER WAS A MEMBER OF THE CREW OF A 28 CM RAILWAY GUN CAPTURED NEAR HARBONNIERES IN FRANCE ON 1918-08-08 BY TROOPS OF THE AUSTRALIAN 8TH INFANTRY BRIGADE. THE FATHER IS SHOWN IN P0167/04/01. INSCRIPTION ON VERSO BY AN AUSTRALIAN SOLDIER: "A SOUVENIR LIKE THIS I THINK HELPS US TO REMEMBER THAT THERE IS ANOTHER SIDE TO WAR. HOWEVER, ITS NOT AS BAD AS IT MIGHT BE FOR THEIR FATHER IN ALL PROBABILITY NOW A PRISONER AS ALL THE CREW WERE CAPTURED. YOU MIGHT SEE SOME RESEMBLANCE IN ONE OF THE MEN IN THE PHOTO.
