STUDIO PORTRAIT OF GEORGE MEYSEY HAMMOND TAKEN IN UNIFORM BEFORE HIS DEPARTURE FOR EGYPT, INSCRIBED "AUSTRALIA WILL BE THERE". HAMMOND WAS AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL (MM) 1915, THE MILITARY CROSS (MC) 1917, AND A BAR TO HIS MC IN 1918. BORN IN ENGLAND, HE MIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA 1911 AND ENLISTED 1915 IN THE 28TH BATTALION. HE DIED OF WOUNDS 1918-06-14. (ORIGINAL IN AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL ARCHIVAL STORE).
