Studio portrait of Captain Clarence Smith Jeffries VC, 34th Battalion. Captain Jeffries was awarded his Victoria Cross for his actions at Passchendaele, Belgium, on 12 October 1917. An extract from "The London Gazette," No. 30433, 18 December 1917, gives details of his bravery during the engagement in which he was killed. Captain Jeffries VC is buried in Tyne Cot Cemetery, Passchendaele, Belgium.
