Allied Prisoners of War (POW) on stage in a scene from the production “Chicago Farmer” at the Soltau POW camp near Hanover, Germany. Identified from left to right: 6736 Private (Pte) Matthew Watson Finlay, 13th Battalion, from Sydney NSW; 6398 Pte William John Rowe, 14th Battalion, from Cunninghame, Victoria: Thompson; 4524 Pte Francis Frederick Jones, 14th Battalion, from Panmure, Victoria; 3097 Pte Albert Jones, 55th Battalion, from Erskineville NSW; and Kettlewell. Pte Finlay enlisted on 10 June 1916 at the age of 28 and embarked for overseas on 8 November 1916 aboard SS Port Nicholson. He was captured at Riencourt, France, on 11 April 1917 and held as a POW in Germany until repatriated to England on 26 December 1918. Pte Finlay arrived back in Australia on 17 April 1919. Pte Rowe enlisted on 12 November 1914, discharged on 4 February 1915 and then re-enlisted on 23 February 1916 at the age of 26 and embarked for overseas on 7 September 1916 aboard HMAT Port Sydney. He was also captured at Riencourt, on 11 April 1917 and held as a POW in Germany until repatriated to England on 14 December 1918. Pte Rowe arrived back in Australia on 3 April 1919. Pte F. Jones enlisted on 3 September 1915 at the age of 20 and embarked for overseas on 18 February 1916 aboard HMAT Ballarat. He too was captured at Riencourt, on 11 April 1917 and held as a POW in Germany until repatriated to England on 16 January 1919. Pte F. Jones arrived back in Australia on 16 May 1919. Pte A. Jones enlisted on 31 August 1915 at the age of 33 and embarked for overseas on 20 December 1915 aboard HMAT Suevic. He was captured at Fleurbaix, France, on 20 July 1916 and held as a POW in Germany until repatriated to England 11 December 1918. Pte A. Jones arrived back in Australia on 24 March 1919.
