Studio portrait of 541 Private (Pte) George Adam Fletcher, 20th Battalion, of Oatley, NSW. Pte Fletcher enlisted on 19 March 1915 and died of disease at St. Omer, France, on 20 May 1916. Born in Belper, Debyshire, England, he came to Australia at twenty, working as a salesman at Anthony Hordern prior to his enlistment. His portrait is one of a number displayed on a photo montage Honour Board made for the department store Anthony Hordern and Sons Ltd, Sydney by the returned soldier and sailor employees of the company. It commemorated 46 of the company's 48 employees who died as a result of their service in the First World War.
