Description

Tamworth, NSW. 1942. A group of patients with nursing staff outside hut 11 in Block 5 of 102nd Australian General Hospital (102AGH). Sister Edna Warnecke, Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS), is wearing the veil and cape of a nursing sister. AANS staff were responsible for a block consisting of two huts (wards) of patients. Sister Warnecke was responsible for a hut of orthopaedic patients and the other hut was for those suffering with ear nose and throat problems. She was assisted by a member of the Australian Army Medical Women's Service (AAMWS). Note the firebucket full of sand hanging beside the door of the corrugated iron hut. (Donor E. Morante)
